Congratulations, Liviusz!
The entire working group congratulates Liviusz Lovasz on successfully passing his doctoral examination on February 4, 2026. The topic of his dissertation was: "Further development of ATHLET-CD for accident simulations with asymmetric characteristics". We are delighted for him on reaching this fantastic milestone!
Practical insights in the Nuclear Power Plant Technology lecture
This year, participants in the Nuclear Power Plant Technology lecture once again had the opportunity to supplement theoretical content with practical impressions.
Two excursions took place in January: visits were made to the Urenco uranium enrichment plant in Gronau and the production facility for CASTOR© containers at Gesellschaft für Nuklear-Service (GNS) in Mülheim.
The visit to Urenco began with an informative company presentation that provided a wealth of interesting background information.
The students then explored the factory premises in small groups, where the entire manufacturing process – from the delivery of materials to filling – was explained in a clear and understandable manner.
At GNS, the excursion began with a presentation on the history, production and special requirements of transport and storage containers.
This was followed by a tour of the production halls, where both CASTOR© and MOSAIK© containers could be viewed, from the unprocessed blank to the fully assembled end product.
Another highlight was the visit to the special ultrasonic testing facility for cast iron blanks. PSS would like to thank Urenco Germany and GNS for their support and for giving the students this valuable practical experience!
